This is such an awesome idea! All across Australia, in hundreds of different locations - just about anywhere - participants of the National Simultaneous Storytime event, will be reading the same book at exactly the same time! That is pretty impressive!

National Simultaneous Storytime (or NSS) is held by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) , with this year marking its 19th successful year. Every year a picture book that has been written and illustrated by a carefully selected Australian author/illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. This year's fabulous book is titled 'Alpacas with Maracas' by Matt Cosgrove.



National Simultaneous Storytime is a graphic, dramatic and stimulating fun event, with the main purpose of promoting the value of reading and literacy, utilising an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.

By facilitating the annual National Simultaneous Storytime, the Australian Library and Information Association aims to:


2018 was the best year to date for National Simultaneous Storytime, with over one million participants, at more than eight thousand locations, throughout Australia.

A bit about this year's book, Alpacas with Maracas

Macca and his buddy, Al, are the best of friends and just love to be together. An opportunity crops up to enter a talent contest, which they just cannot resist. But, what will their act be? In 2019, the Sunshine Coast is fortunate to have six different locations, where avid readers can participate in the National Simultaneous Storytime fun event:


Alternatively, readers can create their own 'mothers and bubs' story time event at one of the ten Story Seat locations. Just remember to register beforehand so that the organisers can keep track of participants and locations.
