For 77 years, the National Sheepdog Trials Championship has been providing an annual link between the Capital and Rural Australia.

Join in the festivities at this year's exciting event, which will be staged at Hall Village Showground, from 11 to 15 March 2020.

While the National Sheepdog Trials Championship does not have that wonderful pig 'Babe', they do have amazing, talented dogs and their handlers trying to navigate 3 wily sheep through and over obstacles and then into the pen, the ultimate goal, all within 15 minutes.

It is not cricket with humans and a ball - sheepdog trialling is 3 different species - dog, person, sheep and anything can happen!

Handlers come from large rural properties across Australia, from smaller farms, towns and cities and spectators can expect an extraordinary display of teamwork and a compelling and nail-biting competition!

This is a wonderful opportunity to experience Australian rural life and adding to the family-friendly atmosphere is a selection of food and beverages.

This unique event has been held in Canberra for 77 years. It was held at Manuka Oval for 20 years, originally to aid the war effort in 1943.

With the severe drought and recent fires, stock numbers have drastically dropped and farmers would appreciate support from the community. Come and support this unique event.

Entry is by donation on weekdays and costs $5 per adult on the weekend. Kids are free. Dogs are welcome (please ensure all dogs are on a lead).

Start planning your trip to the National Sheepdog Championship. It's sure to be a wonderful day out for all the family.
