The Royal Society of Victoria and Science Gallery Melbourne have collaborated and proudly present a National Science Week Program which runs from 12-20 August 2023. The full program is as follows, and all events are free and open to everyone, however you still need to book your free tickets. All events will be held at Science Gallery Melbourne, The University of Melbourne, Grattan Street, Parkville.

  • Sat 12 Aug 11.30am-3.30pm - Kids VS Science - Scientists are going to be interviewed like they've never been interviewed before - by a panel of young people aged 8-16 years. A generation born with mobile phones and access to early stage AI are ready to ask the tough questions from a fresh perspective, and scientists are not going to be able to dip into the jargon in having to explain themselves.
  • Mon 14 Aug 6-7.30pm - Science Gets Real : From problem to lab innovation to real-world impact - You'll hear three inspiring stories from scientists who have succeeded in moving their great ideas out of the lab and into use, where many don't. Expert discussions could help more innovators bring solutions to make the world healthier, safe and more equitable. Attend in person and enjoy casual drinks and nibbles upon conclusion, and enjoy a private showing of the brand-new Dark Matters Exhibition . Online attendees will have the opportunity for a Q&A and join the live conversation.

  • Tue 15 Aug 5.30-7pm - STEMX Speed Networking : For women and gender diverse humans - This is a speed meting event where you'll get the unique opportunity to connect with industry-leading women working in STEM in direct conversation. The event will bring together people from research, major technology companies, engineering firms, media, and academia with young people from across Melbourne for intimate conversations on their careers.
  • Wed 16 Aug 6-9pm - Social Animals Party : National Science Week - Think naughty zebras from Born In A Taxi , wild decorations, live music, food, drinks and a toast to celebrate being together again. A great opportunity for those who work for a Victoria-based university, institute, museum, garden, zoo, or for STEM industries & government agencies, to socialise, have fun and get to know each other.
  • Thu 17 Aug 11am-4pm - Faculty of Science : Collaborate to Innovate Expo - Featured at the Expo are a series of interactive installations showcasing research and work across the STEM world. For all ages and STEM acumen, this event will give you a glimpse into ideas that'll change the future.

  • There's a lot to take in, so be sure to book your free tickets to events you're interested in.
