Challenge yourself to get your poetic juices flowing for NaPoWriMo, the National Poetry Writing Month. The goal is to write at least one poem a day, to achieve a total of thirty poems by the end of April.

It doesn't matter whether you're a poet by trade or just someone who likes to put pen to paper in their spare time- NaPoWriMo only requires that you sit down and try. Explore the different forms of poetry by writing rhyming couplets, or longer sonnets.

If you're worried that you won't know where to start, never fear! NaPoWriMo's website offers great prompts and you can get inspiration from the featured poetry blogs.

There is absolutely no pressure to write a poem a day though, so don't stress if you feel the strain of writer's block or lack of time. Like a marathon, the only one who pushes you to keep going is your own determination.

Poems written by participants can be read via the NaPoWriMo website, so you can get feedback on your own writing or enjoy what your fellow contributors have produced.

Some ideas to get your poetic minds stimulated:
• Meditation followed by contemplative poetry writing
• Automatic writing- let your mind relax and just write 'subconsciously'
• Recount a powerful memory
