Free contemporary art on display in three venues
Art lovers - hear ye, hear ye! This is an event you must not miss. It is a major exhibition of contemporary Australian art across three institutions.

Admission is FREE and it will be held from 29th March to 23rd June 2019.

The National 2019: New Australian Art is a celebration of contemporary Australian art. This will showcase the work of artists being done right across the country. These artists are of different generations and cultural backgrounds. There will be up to 70 artists featured across the three venues and they will have completed art that corresponds to the times in which they live. The art will be a mixture of their observations that are "provocative, political and poetic."

The National is a partnership between the Art Gallery of New South Wales (AGNSW), Carriageworks and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA).

The National 2019: New Australian Art at the MCA is being co-curated by Clothilde Bullen, MCA Curator, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Collection and Exhibitions, and Anna Davis, MCA Curator.

About the Exhibition
The National 2019: New Australian Art is all about the latest ideas in contemporary Australian art. This has been a six-year initiative over three editions in 2017, 2019 and the future in 2021. The artists are a mixture of up and coming, mid-career and established artists chosen from around the country and those Australian artists who are living and working overseas.

The works on display are a diverse range of mediums including painting, video, sculpture, installation, drawing and performance. This is the only large scale recurring exhibition which is solely based on contemporary Australian art. It will connect three of Sydney's key cultural precincts – The Domain, Redfern and Circular Quay.

The curators for the 2019 edition of The National 2019: New Australian Art are:
Isobel Parker Philip, Curator of Photographs, Art Gallery of New South Wales
Daniel Mudie Cunningham, Curator of Visual Arts, Carriageworks
Clothilde Bullen, Curator of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Exhibitions and Collections
Anna Davis, Curator, Museum of Contemporary Art Australia

These curators have developed three distinct presentations of new Australian art that together will showcase many of the ideas that spur these artists on.
