National Holden 48-215 (FX) 75th Anniversary at Trafalgar Holden Museum
THERE ARE SOME SPECIAL THINGS HAPPENING at the Trafalgar Holden Museum this year. One of them is the National Holden 48-215 (FX) 75th anniversary and they’re inviting you to join them. 75 years, where has the time gone? On the day visitors will be treated to Holden Heritage Displays, FX Displays and of course, every else the museum has to offer. This is a great opportunity for those of us who were about at the time to reminisce and for the younger generations to see what their grandfathers were driving. Vehicles with distinctive lines, large steering wheels and bench seats.
THE ICONIC 48-215 (FX) HOLDEN WAS PRODUCED FROM NOVEMBER 1948 TO OCTOBER 1953. It was the first Australian model to bear the General Motors name. it was named the 48-215 but nicknamed the FX, a moniker that stuck. Here’s a bit of trivia I found amusing; the design was originally for Chevrolet in America but the car was deemed too small for that market, and so, it ended up with us.
HOLDEN’S IMPRESSIVE HISTORY. Did you know that Holden was founded in 1856 in Adelaide? Some of you will be shouting at your screens, telling me that can’t be. There were no cars in 1856! But back then, Holden was a saddlery manufacturer. There you go, Holden was always in the transport industry. They moved to motor cars in 1908. The company became a subsidiary of the USA-based General Motors in 1931 and continued in Australia until 2020. By the time they closed, they had made nearly 7.7 million vehicles.
THE TRAFLAGAR HOLDEN MUSEUM is volunteer-run. Housed in an old dairy factory, opened in 2014. The museum is dedicated to telling the story of these quintessentially Aussie cars and to celebrating and preserving Australia’s Holden heritage. Exhibits are rotated every three months, in addition to the permanent displays.
VISITORS CAN EXPECT TO SEE:
A huge display of vehicles
Historic re-enactments
Guest speakers,
A celebratory cake
A cavalcade of 48 215s through Trafalgar.
And then there’s everything else the museum has to offer:
Gypsy Major Aero Engine
HOLDEN made Melbourne tram
Military Equipment
Saddles
Golf Clubs
Badges
HOLDEN built patrol boat
GMH Household display
Utes
Engines
Memorabilia
Motorsport Tribute
Melbourne Holden built tram
HOLDEN history on screen in the Bendigo Community Bank theatre
RED CAR ON A POLE. Trafalgar is an easy day trip from Melbourne and you can’t miss the museum once you get to town because there’s a Red VE Holden Commodore mounted high on a pole out front. The ‘Red Car on a Pole’ is visible from the Princes Highway.
