National Dinosaur Museum is located in Nicholls – approximately 20 minutes north of Canberra CBD and is one of the premier tourist attractions in the area.
Its growing collection currently has 23 complete skeletons and over 300 displays of fossils. Focussing on education and entertainment, the museum offers a wide range of activities to schools and general public including puppet shows, guided tours and birthday parties.
The museum's exhibit take you through the evolution of life from the Earth's beginning to some of the most recent animals and includes a large variety of dinosaurs, mammals, reptiles, fish, trilobites, ammonites, nautiloids, plants, invertebrates, birds, amphibians, hominids and more.
Opening hours are 10am to 5pm every day, including Christmas Day and the cost is $11.50 for adults and $8.50 for children aged over 4 years. The museum also offers memberships to those who wish to visit more often. With free entry for a whole year, discounts in the shop and on birthday parties, free subscription to The Dinosaur Age magazine, and a complimentary copy of the eDinosauria.
Night at the museum sleepovers help you take a trip back to the Jurassic period as the tour guide leads you by torchlight on an interactive prehistoric experience. Enjoy dinner and a movie as part of the experience and wake up to a healthy breakfast before taking part in more dinosaur activities.
Children's birthday parties can be held at either the Prehistoric Ocean Room or the Dinosaur Room and include 30 minute guided tour and small dinosaur toy, balloon and loot bag for all attendees as well as a card and a gift for the birthday child. Parties can be held at either 11am, 3pm or at night.
