National Celtic Festival, Portarlington

The June Long Weekend 6th to 9th June 2014

The National Celtic Festival is Australia's largest celebration of Celtic Music and Culture and is recognised as the premier Celtic Festival in the southern hemisphere. Experience three days and nights of music, poetry, art, food, and dance.

The five Celtic regions - Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Cornwall and Brittany - will be represented. Festival goers can enjoy an array of national and international acts. This is a family friendly festival.

The program offers performances and workshops in different Celtic disciplines, including singing, dancing, poetry and language. You can learn a new skill - like bagpipe playing or how to write a limerick at the different workshops.

This is the 12th year that the National Celtic Festival will be held in Portarlington, and it is becoming known as Australia's largest, most diverse Celtic gathering. People from across the country and from around the world come to watch or perform.

What can you expect to see and hear at the National Celtic Festival? Music, Dances / Ceili's, Songs, Languages, Trad Talk, Art, Theatre, Concerts, Workshops, Markets, Pipe Bands, Drumming Competitions and more.

At outside venues last year there was free entertainment with pipers "piping" at the Portarlington rotunda, there was a Drumworx drum salute, displays of Celtic martial arts, historic re-enactments and buskers. People came to sample traditional Celtic food like haggis, black pudding, Cornish pasties and Scottish shortbread at the undercover Celtic market.

The National Celtic Festival is looking for volunteers. Apply online if you would like to be involved in the Festival as a volunteer. Volunteering is a great way to be a part of the festivities, and to do something meaningful. It looks great on your resume too.

The National Celtic Festival Program is not available yet, however I am sure that you'll be able to see the program soon. According to the countdown on the National Celtic Festival page, (at the time of publishing this article) there are only 19 days before the Festival starts. You can view a list of the artists who will be performing here. You may have already seen some of them at last year's Celtic Festival.

Go along for the food, dancing, singing and fun. Come away with a dance in your step and a song on your lips. Enjoy! Life is for living!
