Cats & Candy will be performed in the superb acoustic of Robert Blackwood Hall at Monash University. Featuring performances by the Elementary and Junior Choirs directed by Mandy Brook, the concert will also showcase the 100-voice Performing Choir, in works by Rutter, Poulenc and Flor Peeters, Australian ballads, a collection of catty melodies, and 531 Wonka Bars (a Willy Wonka medley).
The National Boys Choir of Australia, established in 1964, is recognised internationally and locally as one of Australia's finest children's choirs. This concert will be significant as it will be the first time in the Choir's 55-year history it will not be led by a member of the Casey family. Kevin Casey, who founded the choir, and his son Peter who followed him, were on the podium at every major choir concert during this period.
In May this year, Andrew Bainbridge took up the joint role of Co-Artistic and Administrative Director of the Choir. Andrew not only has a strong choral and educational background but is also a highly talented organist and musician.
