Narrow Neck Lookout offers breathtaking views of unique clifftops and valleys with two very different perspectives of the stunning and mighty Blue Mountains. The remote and stunning Jamison Valley to the left and to the right farmland of the Megalong Valley, rugged with Narrow Neck Plateau.



This less known Lookout offers breathtaking views over the Narrow Neck Peninsula, which is a large plateau that divides Megalong Valley from the Jamison Valley. It is a lookout that is home to the Narrow Neck Plateau Track (can be accessed off Cliff Rd on Glenraphael Drive) and from here, the Walking Track becomes a gateway to many other stunning walks and hikes.



From the Lookout, Narrow Neck Plateau can easily be seen and this massive sandstone-cliffed peninsula sits around 13km out towards the Coxs River and the upper part of Warragamba Dam.

The Narrow Neck Plateau is an eroded remnant of a sandstone layer that is situated 1,000 metres elevation above sea level and is part of the Blue Mountains Range, which is a spur line off the Great Dividing Range.



Narrow Neck was once a popular bushwalking area in the early 20th century due to its easy access from Katoomba as well as providing a route into the Wild Dog Mountains and beyond. When the motor car became heavily present, Narrow Neck Plateau started to lose its popularity, and with the construction of the fire road out to Clear Hill in about 1960, bushwalkers moved on. However, in the recent years, it has experienced a bit of resurgence in interest, mainly around the passes on and off the plateau.



The main focus of this bushwalk is rediscovering the old passes. Narrow Neck was typically old miner's passes, and some of them were equipped with wooden ladders. Few of the original ladders remain and many passes require a rope to negotiate fully!



Access to the Narrow Neck Plateau Track is from Glenraphael Drive (a dirt road) off Cliff Drive. Drive to the gate where you can park your car. You will see a locked gate, from here the trail begins.



Other activities that can be enjoyed at Narrow Neck include abseiling- where there are a couple of well-known multi-pitch abseiling trips in the vicinity of Narrow Neck.

Rock climbing can be done here at Narrow Neck, although perhaps not that much when you consider the amount of rock available. The climbing is mostly on the western side, within a short walk off Glenraphael Drive.



Mountain Biking can be enjoyed here too. It is about 13km each way from the start of Glenraphael Drive and offers a number of breathtaking views from the many vantage points. There are a few steep hills and some more technical sections out near the end.
