Sydney is an expansive and expanding city, and many cultural hubs can be found in various areas. One of them, in the Macarthur region of Narellan, will be celebrating its rich cultural diversity with its 9th annual
Narellan Rhythms Festival .
On Saturday, 22nd October from 5pm to 9pm, the Narellan Library Plaza (Elyard Street, Narellan) will be a hive of activity as the
Narellan Rhythms Festival comes alive with light, colour and music. An Aboriginal Welcome to Country by
Glenda Chalker officially opens the evening at 7pm, along with an Aboriginal Smoking ceremony and dance by
Josh Bell and the Koomurri Birrays performers. The opening will be followed by a screening and premiere of
Different Paths (a locally produced short documentary about multiculturalism in the Camden area) at about 7:45pm.
The Narellan Rhythms Festival is an important event in the Camden Council's calendar, as it recognises the region's multicultural heritage and population, all of whom socially and economically enrich the Camden local government area.
Other events and activities during the evening include:
Song and dance from Bosnian, Vietnamese and Spanish performers (including Flamenco dancing)
Irish drumming
Workshops demonstrating Indian rangoli floor artwork
Face painting and henna art
A visit to the Twilight Market and Camden Library's Books Unbound
Sampling multicultural food from various international cuisines
There will also be a multicultural fashion parade and Indian
Diwali lamp dance finale.
The 2016 Narellan Rhythms Festival is on Saturday 22 October from 5pm to 9pm at the Narellan Library Plaza, Elyard Street, Narellan.
Be sure to celebrate the festival and the community's energy and cultural pulse, the theme of the 2016 Narellan Rhythms Festival.
