Nanya interior space
We visited on a school holiday long weekend for dinner and it was a busy scene that greeted us. Nevertheless, all of the staff were courteous and helpful in dealing with the surge of the school holiday crowds. This is what's best about the country hospitality you'll find at Nanya Bistro, there's plenty of room, everyone is welcome and it's clean, stylish and comfortable.

Late afternoon verandah views
The front verandah section of the bistro is perfect for a special occasion with wide views across Murray Avenue and to the willow-lined banks on the other side of the river. You can watch houseboats drift past or moor at the wharf, paddle steamers chugging along and fishermen racing by on the river as you browse the extensive menu.

Antipasto
We chose an antipasto platter for entrée and it hit all the right buttons with an excellent selection of meats and cheeses. For mains, we chose the beer battered flathead special and a chef's special stone-grill steak with prawns. The flathead was above average pub fare and excellent value for $15, just make sure to grab your tartare sauce from the salad bar. The stone-grill steak is a fun and healthy way to dine. The steak is served uncooked on a hot stone which cooks the steak at your table to your exact liking. The stone and its seasonings impart great flavour to the meat. I was looking for some kind of sauce to go with the beef but I didn't need it. The texture and tenderness of the beef is an experience in itself. All main meals come with the obligatory free salad bar and let's face it, who doesn't love a good country pub salad bar?

Fish and chips

The kids are well catered for with huge serves of all the favourites. The chips with gravy and cheese is a sight to behold as either a snack, entrée or kids' meal.

Chips, cheese and gravy!
There's a great dessert menu with kids' options along with slices of delicious cake.
The wine list is extensive and the bar has some excellent local beers on tap including ales from Woolshed Brewery, a local legend just up the road.
Nanya Bistro is part of the Renmark Hotel complex which also contains the usual bar facilities and an attached motel. It's open from 7am until late for breakfast, lunch, coffee and cake or dinner.

After dinner, why not head across the road to see the possums in the now-famous
Possum Parade? The local possums come down from the trees at dusk to forage and be hand-fed by young and old.
