The Nandos in Lygon Street Brunswick is near the end of the street which has a few cafes. So when we were in a hurry, this was the closest option. I must admit when we headed off for lunch, I was thinking that we would be enjoying a meal in a trendy cafe, not Nandos. This opinion was due to my lack of knowledge, experience and prejudice that it was just another greasy chicken franchise.
If I have not known it was a Nandos when I entered, I would've thought it was just another nice cafe in Lygon Street, Brunswick. I liked their eclectic selection of pendant lights and seating. It was really quiet for lunchtime, so I took this as an additional ominous sign.
Once I'd adjusted to the idea of not being where I thought I might be, I found there were a few things on the menu that I could choose from. I avoided the chicken and ordered the vegetarian pita pocket, which was stuffed full with fresh salad. The pita was soft and warm and the meal the perfect size.
The food was served as listed with nothing more and nothing less on the plate except the little Nandos flag. I really could not fault the food, especially for the price. I ordered mild, which was spicy enough for me. The delicious spicy hot chips were perfectly crispy and cooked fresh.
