Nana & Da's Cafe

My friends have described living near this little Northside cafe as 'dangerous' and I didn't really understand what they meant until we met up for a coffee date here recently. In what looks to be a converted corner store, is the type of establishment you really could find on every street corner.
My little niece who is two had a fantastic time playing in the children's area where there is a large rug and loads of fun toys to occupy them while the adult's drink and eat. The cafe is extremely child friendly and staff greet the little members of your family with big smiles and lots of patience and kindness.
I ordered a cappuccino and one of the daily muffins which was apple and cinnamon and one of the fluffiest, tastiest baked treats I've had in a while. These guys are obviously making these on premises as it was fresh and flavourful with the staff warming it up slightly to make the most of its fragrance. My sister in law had the lemon and yoghurt cake which was just as amazing and she said that she hadn't had anything from here which she didn't love.
Our other guests arrived and ordered iced coffees for the hot day which came in long glasses with just the right amount of ice. The service was quick and friendly considering that the place was absolutely packed - always a really good sign for me. The meals flying past us looked pretty delicious and if I went back for breakfast I would order the
Ricotta pancakes with grilled peach & prosciutto in a heartbeat.
In today's style of unique cafe experiences, Nana & Da's also host evening events with food to purchase and eat along with your BYO alcohol. There are only around four of these evenings in the course of a month and they have proved popular with the locals with often every table taken throughout the evening.
Inside has ducted air conditioning so it's cosy in winter and cool in summer making it always comfortable to meet with friends or take the family out for one of the best milkshakes on the Northside. You can see everything that's happening inside the schmick kitchen which seems to run like a very well oiled machine.
The decor is reminiscent of your grandparent's place (as the name suggests) but it's as if you've walked straight into the 1950's version of their home with fresh paint, beautiful new-looking antique pieces and beautiful bright wallpaper. A completely different look to the current trend of 'shabby chic' or 'hipster' cafes which are using a similar theme but with second hand, aged pieces. It's a really refreshing style and makes you feel like you could be in a crinoline gown at the local milk bar with your Teddy Boy guy.
There is a small amount of outdoor seating and since you're off the main road, it's a nice spot to sit in the sun while you eat and drink in the breeze. If you're wanting to give your local friend's a nice gift, Nana & Da's also offer gift vouchers so you can introduce new soon-to-be loyal customers to this beautiful little cafe.
I highly recommend this place if you want to take the kids somewhere which you'll love too. It's got great food, excellent coffee and ice cold milkshakes to suit anyone's fussy tastes. Absolutely will be back sooner rather than later.
