Gem Of A Show
When I was a kid in the 70's, I was fascinated by crystals, rocks and gems. I loved to stare at the gorgeous gems in the display windows of the fancy jewellery stores in Sydney. I also liked to dig and find my own treasures. Over the years I amassed quite a good collection and even now make my own gemstone necklaces as a hobby. So if you are a rock hound like me, then rock on down to the Nambour Lapidary Club's Gem Fest on the 10th October 2015 at the Nambour Showgrounds.
Bring the kids and enjoy all the fun activities and lapidary demonstrations throughout the day. Food and drinks will also be available at the venue. The entry cost is $4 per adult and free for kids under 12 years.
Gemstone spheres radiate energy in all directions - (from left to right) Sunstone, green fluorite, lepidolite, blue calcite, and heliotrope.
Highlights this year include panning for gems at the kids' hut with a prize for all the children who do the panning. For older children there is a quiz competition which entitles them to choose a lovely polished stone for every completed answer. With over 100 undercover stalls selling gorgeous gemstones, crystals, mineral specimens, jewellery, tools and displays - there's bound to be something special for every rock hound to find this year!
