Vegetarian, wholesome, 100% gluten free and fully probitic, Nalini's at Bondi is all that and more. A simple unassuming shopfront with half a dozen bar tools, Nalini's gives the impression of a no-nonsense takeaway joint. Of course, you can take a seat near the window and enjoy the food right there, however they seem to be more popular with takeaways.
The menu at Nalini's revolves around the healthy dosa. Dosa is a south Indian savoury pancake made from fermented batter of rice and lentils. It is spread on a hot pan and cooked till it forms a crispy exterior. In the traditional sense, dosa is served hot with a chutney and lentil soup called sambhar however Nalini's has done something wonderful with the dosa. They have made a dosa wrap and stuffed it with a whole heap of vegetarian goodness. Choose from falafel wrap (Indian falafel made with lentils), masala wrap, chickpea wrap or turmeric roasted sweet potato among others.
Another option for patrons is the yogi bowl. Think of it as a naked burrito of sorts. The filling is served in a bowl and the dosa on the side letting you eat it in whichever manner you please. The hero of the bowls is sauerkraut, which is nothing but fermented vegetables. Sauerkraut's fermentation process produces beneficial probiotics that help regulate many body functions.
They do offer a range of probiotic smoothies and ice creams. I had a heavenly coconut milk, cacao and banana smoothie with my meal. They also serve a delicious mango and coconut ice cream. If you prefer something hot, try their turmeric latte. The health benefits of turmeric in your body is immense and the creamy latte will just be the perfect way to add all the goodness to your body.
As we ate our meals seated within the joint, we watched the continuous stream of customers walk in with their orders and the busy kitchen preparing them. Nalini's is a local takeaway gem that is very popular and serves wonderful wholesome food.
