Inspired by the internet trend of amateurs trying and failing to recreate elaborate professionally made cakes, Nailed It! sets amateur chefs the challenge of recreating culinary masterpieces without the appropriate skills or experience. They try and fail, you watch and laugh.
Nailed It! is a Netflix original series that first aired on March 9th 2018. Each episode three contestants compete for a $10,000 prize. Actress and comedian Nicole Byer acts as host, accompanied by the head judge, master pastry chef and chocolatier Jacques Torres. Each week they are also joined by a guest chef, such as cake designer Sylvia Weinstock. If they get panicky in the second round, contestants can press their panic buttons to summon one of the chefs to give them advice for 3 minutes. The contestant who is in last place after round one also gets a second button which, when pressed allows them to annoy the other contestants by forcing them to stop work for 3 minutes or summoning Nicole to just talk nonsense and distract them.

Nailed It! differs from a lot of competitive cooking/baking shows in that while many of the contestants' attempts are huge disasters, the judges aren't mean to them about it. Sometimes they can't help but laugh as someone unveils a real monstrosity, but they always apologise for it, and give the hapless bakers tips on how to improve in future. Nobody ends up in tears (at least, not on camera so far), and the show has maintains a constant sense of whimsy and fun.
All six episodes of season 1 are available for streaming on Netflix internationally. Nailed It! is an addictive show you will be tempted to binge watch. Make sure you have some cake or other tasty treats handy because while it makes you laugh it will also make you hungry.
