Barangaroo, The Rocks and Darling Harbour will be celebrating
NAIDOC Week from
Sunday 7 July to Sunday 14 July 2024. There'll be a range of free activities designed to honour the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture. All 3 Precincts will have
Free virtual experiences, including Guided virtual tours; Free language sheet; and Free access to the Indigenous Australian film
Occupation: Native - exploring the history and culture of Aboriginal communities.
Barangaroo Reserve
7 July - 13 July - every evening Barangaroo Reserve will celebrate NAIDOC Week with a range of free events set amidst its oasis of waterfront lawns and native Australian plantings, including -
7 & 13 July - Interactive Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Dance Workshops by Buuja Buuja Butterfly Dance Group.
8, 10, & 12 July - Interactive talks and storytelling sessions with Hello Dingo, featuring friendly dingoes.
9 July - Storytime sessions by Speaking In Colour, exploring cultural connections to the sky and constellations.
11 July - Special event with Elders and a senior cloak maker, sharing stories and traditions of possum skin cloak-making.
Throughout the week, look forward to Aboriginal Cultural Tours led by Aboriginal Australian elders. The Barangaroo Public Art Tour features works from First Nations artists such as Shellwall, Remembering, Barangaroo Ngangamaym, and Mermer Waiskeder.
The Rocks
This NAIDOC week, the Rocks will be holding a range of free activities designed to bring Australians together and learn more about each other's culture as follows.
6-7 July & 13-14 July - First Nations local performances at The Rocks Markets, including MONTÄE, Sharnee Fenwick, Ronnie, Grace Fuller and more. The Markets will also host an educational pop-up with IndigiGrow on native seeds, bush tucker, and traditional cultural practices.
7 July 12pm - Welcome to Country, Smoking Ceremony and Didgeridoo Performances at Dawes Point Park/Tar-ra
7-14 July - Spoken word films by Gamilaroi poet Luke Patterson at The Rocks Discovery Museum.
8-12 July & 15-19 July - Badge Making Workshops at The Rocks Discovery Museum, teaching children aged 5-12 about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags and the significance of NAIDOC Week. Throughout the week enjoy Immersive First Nations Art at The Museum of Contemporary Art, including Lucy Simpson, Holy Ground, and Reko Rennie, Remember Us, and more, like Indigenous Australian art at MCA Store, Gannon House Gallery, and Spirit Gallery.
Darling Harbour
Darling Harbour will be putting on a special NAIDOC themed fireworks, Welcome to Country, Smoking Ceremony, and more!
6 July & 13 July - Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, along with Fireworks at 8:30pm at Cockle Bay.
7 July - Full day of immersive cultural activities at the Maritime Museum, including art making activities, dance workshops with Bangarra Dance Theatre, and storytelling and live art by Charmaine Ledden-Lewis. Throughout the week, explore free public art spaces, including Canopy by Jacob Nash and a 10-story mural portrait of Jenny Munro. For full details, see the website .
