Enjoy some world music from Mzaza
On a dressed up Sunday night, Mzaza (pronounced m-zah-zah) performed at Black Bear Lodge as part of their "Off the Beaten Track Tour". Laique warmed up the crowd first (my thoughts about their performance is available here) before Mzaza took the stage.
You could hear a pin drop, with the audience enraptured by the Mzaza gypsy sound coming out of the six musicians on stage. Some beautiful sounds were created by Gwen playing the double bass with a bow (my favourite sound of all time).
The band worked their way through tunes from their debut EP Parliament of the Birds and their CD Journey Over Skin, and the crowd was up dancing with a few tunes. Kylie Southwell from Laique joined the stage and sang harmonies for one of the later tunes, before Mzaza closed their set with Black Sea Dance, then played two additional songs including Mon Amant De St Jean to the delight of the crowd.
