The Myrtleford Festival running from 8-11 March is doing it a little different this year. The Party in the Piazza will now be the official launch site on Saturday 9 March from 6-9.30pm on Clyde St, Myrtleford. Clyde Street will be closed as the party launches onto the grassed Piazza with entertainment on the open-air stage running for the duration. If you can't make it to the Princess Ball, this is the perfect opportunity to get to know the Princesses as they'll be answering some questions after each being introduced. Princesses and their partners will perform their dance as the final rehearsal before the ball.

Local artists Adam Lindsay, Tracey Hamilton and Matt Smith will be entertaining you after the presentation for the rest of the evening. Local food vendors and Gapstead Wines will see to your sustenance with wines selling by the glass or bottle. You could also make it a family picnic event by bringing your own, along with blankets and chairs. CHECK HERE for the full downloadable program of events.

For this Labour Day in March, Myrtleford Festival is where it's at. Supported by Gapsted Wines, it's a whole long weekend of fun, food, fine arts, live music and lots more, along with FREE things to do and see for the whole family. One of Victoria's oldest rural community festival that started in 1961 as the Tobacco and Hops Festival, it's just grown bigger and better than ever before.

The stunning Showgrounds was the obvious choice for Sunday 10 March celebrations from 10am to 10pm, with more room to allow more events to be hosted in one location with ample free parking and extensive shade. You'll find the Street Market & Food Court , always a popular destination, filled with regular and new vendors to tempt you with variety and a range of food and produce from around the region. It's Party at the Showgrounds with a superb lineup of entertainment, includijng the brand new and exciting addition, The Big Duck Drop . Sounds exciting! Especially if you stand to win $1000. Find out more HERE .

Between 10am and 3pm you'll find the market stalls up and running, with some staying a little later than the aforementioned time. Youth and local acts will entertain you in that same timeframe, while the Art Prize Show 'Squared'; a collection of 20cm X 20cm mini masterpieces continues for the weekend for the price of a gold coin entry fee.

Gapstead Wines also have events running, like the Alpine Producers' Festival Feast on Fri 8 Mar from 6-9m at 3897 Gt Alpine Rd, Myrtleford. Tickets are $65 at their panoramic restaurant with fresh delicious fare from a variety of high-quality local producers as the basis for a range of sumptuous food stations, each matched with one of the wines for tasting.

The producers themselves will be present so you can learn how the food you're enjoying is grown and produced. If you like what you're tasting, you'll get the opportunity to buy their produce direct from their local property, ready to enjoy. You'll get a glass of wine on arrival, and live music by Adam Lindsay.

Wine will be available for tasting or for purchase by the glass and bottle. Not only will you be supporting these highly skilled food producers, you'll also get to enjoy the tasty results of their hard work with a glass or two of major supporters of the Festival, Gapsted Wines of course. Check their Facebook page for other happenings like lunches from 12-3pm with a seasonal A la Carte menu; dinners on Sat & Sun from 6pm and Gapstead Uncovered on Fri 8 March from 5.30-7.30pm

The month of March is also the month of the M'Archies . It's Myrtleford's Archibald-style portrait exhibition. Portraits are exhibited in windows and foyers of local businesses displaying The M'Archies sign in Myrtleford CBD. On the other side of portraiture, the 4th annual Tiff Rayner Photography Exhibition is set to tell the story and give you a portrait of Myrtleford over Tiff Rayner's lifetime.

You'll find it at the Uniting Church Hall on Albert Street, as the exhibition showcases a second selection of 100 images from the Tiff Rayner Collection depicting people and events during the 1970s and 1980s in the Myrtleford District. Rayner was a local identity, news reporter, cameraman and historian and his photographic collection of over 5000 images was entrusted to the Myrtleford Historical Society. Entry is $5 adults and $3 concession with students and children getting in for $1.

The Annual Gala Parade is a crowd pleaser on Sunday 10 March at 3pm. Once again kindly sponsored by Nevin Lenne Gross Barristers/Solicitors, you'll find colourful floats travelling down the tree lined drive of the showgrounds where you can take a closer look at the work that goes into each float by the community. The Festival Queen and all the Princesses reign in this year's Parade theme - Recreation. Find out more on the event page .

The Festival Ball is held on the Saturday night and is coordinated by the Myrtleford Lions Club. Tickets are $45 each and are available via Jenny Zamperoni on 0427 495 309 or email: [email protected]

Princesses mingle with residents at the Myrtleford Lodge and are judged throughout the entire process which includes the interview, how they interact with residents at The Myrtleford Lodge, how they speak at the Piazza, at dinner and whilst they dance. The Queen then leads them in another dance and they can enjoy the rest of the night at the ball with family and friends.

There's so much going on for a small rural community, you really need to scour the website and the program and stay updated via the running conversation on the Facebook page.
