A new comer to Flinders St, offers a unique dining experience which mixes childhood nostalgia with modern bar food. Inspired by the milk bars in Melbourne and Sydney from the early 1900s has a rustic and stylish feel.



Lunch at is where you will find the classic old school items; cheese burgers, chilli dogs and pulled pork buns but we went at dinner, when they switch to their tapas and pizza menu (but still with an old school twist). We ordered popcorn chicken, mushroom risotto balls, nachos and fried green peppers as well as an iced coffee and chocolate milkshake. The food was beautifully presented, coming out on wooden boards and the Popcorn Chicken came out in a paper cone. The chicken was succulent and served with lemon and aioli, reminding me of childhood fish and chips on the beach. Another favourite was the Mushroom Risotto Balls which were served with a bechamel sauce and perfect to share.





Sitting at really does feel like you are a kid again. The booths are comically large so that your feet dangle above the floor, the iced coffee and milkshake were also fabulously large. You know that overwhelmed and giddy with excitement feeling you had when you were a kid and got an ice cream the size of your head, that is what you get at Mylk Bar. Even the corridor to the bathrooms is Wonka-esque, leading you down the 'Milky Way' hallway.



All childhood references aside, is also highly styled in its old school décor, there was obviously a lot of thought put into the layout and it has paid off. It feels fun without feeling tacky or kitschy. Perfect for an after work drink or midday lunch, provides a trip back in time to when things were simpler and you didn't have to worry about the perils of the adult world. Sit back and have an adult's sized milkshake and some macaroni cheese, or better yet a Martini.
