Myer and Victorian Salvos Stores have recently launched a textile recycling initiative to obtain quality pre-loved clothing from the general public; Fashion Rescue.

In a bid to receive high quality clothing, if you donate a bag of unwanted clothes to a Victorian Salvos participating store, you will be rewarded with a $10 voucher, when spending $50 or more in one transaction, to be used in Myer on selected brands.

I popped into my local Salvos in a Melbourne Bayside suburb, and asked a member of staff a question on the type of garment they are ideally looking for, to which I am told "A bag of good quality winter clothes".

In financial year 2011, Myer prevented 252 tonnes of excess and sample merchandise going to landfill through re-use and recycling programs and Salvos Stores divert more than 55,000 tonnes of saleable goods from landfill every year.

Clothing donated for this initiative will be distributed through welfare vouchers issued by The Salvation Army Community Services Centres to those most in need and sold in Salvos Stores to raise vital funds for The Salvation Army.
