Satay, ice cream & great decor keep the kids entertained
With a seven year old son we are always on the lookout for child friendly restaurants that my son will enjoy visiting, which in turn means that we will enjoy visiting. One of the best dinners out we've had lately has been at the wonderful Thai restaurant in Auchenflower, My Thai.
We booked for 5.30pm to ensure that we ate early enough to keep my son from starving and before he fell asleep. Initially we were the only ones in the restaurant and this gave my son time to explore the beautiful water feature on one side of the restaurant as well as all the Thai decorations around the restaurant. This kept him quite entertained while we considered the menu. By 6pm we noticed that other families, many with young babies or children, were also turning up for dinner. This helped create a great family friendly atmosphere and the staff handled the influx of various children in their stride.
The menu is great for adults and children alike. We ordered chicken satay entree for our son as a main course while we ordered the fried calamari as entree. We all agreed that these meals were delicious. In fact my son, who is a bit of a Satay Chicken connoisseur declared it the best he has had.

For main course there are so many delicious options. There is a big vegetarian section which always wins me over. I chose the Tofu with Sweet Basil while my partner ordered the My Thai Duck Curry. We were very tempted by some of the specials which are cleverly named and give an insight into the owners and chef. Have you ever tried a meal called One Nation (a barramundi dish) or Tax Return (Tiger Prawns). How about My Thai On The Roof (Coalition Seafood), Big Pineapple (pineapple fried rice) or Immigration Salad (noodles)?
Don't forget that My Thai is licensed. We found it perfect to be able to have one glass of wine at our family dinner rather than feeling compelled to finish the bottle and perhaps not setting the best example for our son.

Luckily the meals arrived quickly so we were able to eat our entree and main almost as quickly as my son ate his entree. We were having such a good time that we decided to have dessert. We ordered our son the vanilla ice cream. This arrived promptly as three enormous scoops of ice cream in a large vase-like dish and kept our son busy for some time. I enjoyed the Black Sticky Rice with Coconut while my partner chose the Fruit and Ice Cream.

We finished up around 7.30 pm completely stuffed full and very satisfied with our successful family night out. This was about the same time all the other families left as well ensuring that the restaurant was free of children at a time when the childless tend to come out. This seemed like a great arrangement for parents and the restaurant, keeping it filled with customers all night.
