Sea Shepherd's M/Y Steve Irwin Returns to Port Adelaide

Sea Shepherd's flagship, the M/Y Steve Irwin is coming back to Port Adelaide after completing its 2 week ecological marine survey mission, Operation Jeedara , in the Great Australian Bight, and is offering free tours again over the Easter long weekend.

The crew have been working hard, conducting surveys of some of the islands and diving below the surface to see how important our marine parks are to protecting the future of this beautiful area, in the campaign to stop BP placing an oil rig in the middle of such an amazing diverse eco-system.

M/Y Steve Irwin, named in honour of the late Australian conservationist as he had wanted to join Sea Shepherd on a whale defence campaign before his untimely death, was built in 1975, is an impressive 59.5m in length, 11m wide, can carry up to 40 persons onboard and has embarked on more ocean defence campaigns than any other current Sea Shepherd vessels in their fleet.

The vessel is due back at Port Adelaide on Wednesday 28th March, around 2pm before departing for Sydney the following week.

The crew are holding free tours again, just in time for the long weekend and will be on Saturday 31st March and Sunday 1st April between 11am and 4pm. Come down to the Port early as the queue starts to build around 10am and join before 3pm to ensure you have time to get onboard before the tours stop. The crew will also have merchandise available to purchase before and after your tour.

Why not make a day of it at the Port and grab a coffee or a bite to eat at Folklore Cafe , or the Pancakes at the Port , both conveniently located along the wharf, or if you've got a feel for being on the water, jump onboard the Dolphin Explorer with 2 hour cruises departing at 11:30am and 2pm both days.

Don't miss this extra chance to see the M/Y Steve Irwin again and the rare opportunity to get onboard, have a free tour and ask questions about the amazing work the crew do to defend the world's marine wildlife. Whilst the tour is 'free', please donate kindly to keep the Steve Irwin and its crew protecting our oceans.
