These days many people are getting creative and all of a sudden in this new age, bartering is back in vogue. Some people just don't want to sell their books, but instead utilise the power of karma and pass on any unwanted books to others for their enjoyment. It is the same with clothes. It's happening on the Gold Coast.
There is a similar place in Melbourne (also inside a busy, popular shopping centre) at Melbourne Central that allows you to swap, trade and give away your books to benefit all of you bookworms and readers out there.
There is a place called (how appropriate) My Place at the Pacific Fair Shopping Centre that allows this exchange freely. It is like a mini library, or rather a simple and welcoming mini oasis set up like a living room in someone's house. Just pop in anytime the shopping centre is open, and leave any unwanted book/s on the table. There may be a couple of motivational sign posts to encourage you to get rid of (otherwise donate) your old books. It is fine to also leave an unwanted book here, and pick up another book in exchange, whether you wish to return this book back to My Place or not. It is so simple, and the name incites creativity and appropriateness.
This is one of two places to chill out and get away from the noise and the crowds at this busy, family friendly shopping centre. Who knows, maybe you can swap an eBay dud for an eBay best seller. This could be a chance to bag yourself some extra cash with books if you know what the market wants, and you also play your cards right. The books that do get left behind are also in a fairly good condition.
Have you come across any other quality places (no strings attached) where you can donate anything from one to 100 books, and/or where you can donate a book in exchange for temporarily or permanently taking another? Let us know about them.
