Yes, I'm reviewing another
My Little Pony comic because reading
My Little Pony is self-care. It can't be all horror movies and murder mysteries all the time. Everybody needs a bit of whimsy and sparkle once in a while.
A lot of people don't know that there are male ponies in the MLP franchise, but there are actually quite a few, they just aren't the main characters. In this volume, a couple of them take center stage for a while. In the first story, Applejack's older brother, Big Macintosh, needs some nails to fix up Granny Mac's pagoda. He goes out to buy more, forgetting that the Summer Wrap Up Festival and Hoe Down is on. His quest gets repeatedly derailed by festive happenings like the fillies' explosive science project, doing various favours for other ponies and accidentally inventing a new dance. Of course, everything ultimately works out for the best. It's that sort of comic.
In the second story, we learn how Princess Cadence and Prince Shining Armor first met, back when they were in school together.
I didn't like this volume as much as the previous two, but it was interesting to meet a few more of the characters. The series continues to be bright and colourful, with wholesome stories and fun little visual jokes. Volume 3 collects issues 9-12 of
Friendship is Magic.
