My favourite low-cost hotel in Kuala Lumpur is part of the fittingly named 'My Hotel' chain of hotels in the Malaysian capital. My Hotel Brickfields is located along Jalan Padang Belia in Brickfields and is one of 6 conveniently located budget 'My Hotel' accommodations around Kuala Lumpur.
My Hotel Brickfields is located 5 minutes away from the main transport hub - KL Sentral - in a street slightly off the main drag and definitely quiet from my 4th floor room. What's more surprising is how comfortable and cheap this place is - considering it's prime location. For those visiting from other countries, or perhaps areas outside Kuala Lumpur, the hotel may not seem that impressive, but having stayed in a number of budget hotels in Kuala Lumpur, I really noticed a positive difference in a number of key factors in the rooms at this hotel.
For one, the bathroom is beautifully spacious, clean and modern with decent towels - nothing fancy, but none of the rough threadbare towels I experienced elsewhere. There is a flat-screen television with a number of English channels available. The air conditioner is also reliable.
My room had a window - often something not present in budget rooms. It can also be opened to provide some fresh air but the view isn't anything special. However, not all rooms at the hotel have windows, so be sure to inquire specifically if this is something that you need.
The beds and pillows are comfortable, the room spacious and there are plenty of extra touches that are nice to see - an international adapter socket, hooks to hang coats, a full-length mirror, a hot water jug, cups with basic coffee-making facilities and a little side table that doubles well as a desk.
'My Hotel' branded drinking water provided in my room
They don't provide travel-sized shower gels or shampoos, but in lieu of that they have a shower gel dispenser on the wall. Not a bad trade-off. You also won't have a fridge here, so that is something to consider.
An International Socket outlet - a handy feature you don't see at every hotel
At check-in, you are also charged a small refundable fee that is repaid to you when you return your room's key card at check out. As for the staff, I found them more pleasant than at other similarly priced hotels in the capital, and like most hotel staff in Kuala Lumpur, they speak English.
I cannot over-emphasize how great the location is if you want to be right on the doorsteps of KL Sentral. From there, you can catch buses, trams and trains around the city, as well as out to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. This makes My Hotel Brickfields an excellent place to stay the night before a flight.
