One of the biggest perks to being in and around Brisbane, is the ease with which we can access some of Australia's best theme parks. From cooling off in summer at Wet n' Wild to enjoying stunt shows at Movieworld or whale watching from Seaworld the prospects for entertainment and fun are just fantastic. Of course usually these treats are reserved for special occasions as the entry fees can add up quickly, especially for families.
There is a way to make these special days out more accessible and far better value for money. The VIP Fun Pass. These passes are typically valid from the 1st of July through until the 30th of June the following year (Currently they are valid until 30th June 2012). They are issued for the parks that comprise the three big attractions under the My Fun umbrella. These are Wet n' Wild, Seaworld and Warner Bros. Movieworld. Selling for $109.99 a piece, investing in these early can really pay off over the course of one year.
To put it in perspective, separate entry rates for Seaworld and Warner Bros. Movie World are $79.99 for adults and $49.99 for children. Wet n' Wild offers individual entry at $59.99 for adults and children for $34.99. Visit any park (or combination of parks) twice and you have already made your money back. As they do not offer child discounts on the VIP pass they must visit three times for it to be better value then day tickets.
If you and your friends all love Wet n' Wild then you can visit as many times as you want this summer and even enjoy their Dive In movies over the Christmas Period. Want to stop in for a Churros at Movieworld and ride a roller coaster on the way to the Gold Coast? It's already covered.
For locals this means that if you are ever at a loose end on a weekend you can jump in the car and ride some of the best water flues, or thrill rides in Australia. If you are visiting, then it is still the cheapest way to experience all three parks too. Just don't forget the food and drink prices can be pretty high for very average food so eat well before you go. Alternatively you can make use of the BBQ's provided at Wet n' Wild.
So, if you want your summer to be full of thrills, spills and sun there is a fantastic way to get the most of your money. Be aware that these passes do not include special events such as Movieworld's Fright Night or Christmas event. You can have these included by upgrading to a Gold VIP Pass, however these cost $139.99 and unless you are dead set on attending these events don't offer a whole lot more for the $30. This is particularly the case if you are buying it as a family of four or five.
If you are interested in these keep an eye on their website. Often promotions with reduced prices are run close to school holidays, or in the second half of the passes validity (typically late January onwards). Also your local travel agent may be able to arrange a small discount if you have built a relationship with them.
You can purchase these ahead of time on their website, from tourist desk and travel agents or usually they are available at the gate. If you plan on getting them at the gate, check beforehand as they may change their availability sometimes.
