As chief bridesmaid at her best friend's wedding, Libby is determined to make sure that the little flower girls (nicknamed the "trio of torment") behave and the bride and groom have a wonderful day. However, her job is made much harder when her plus one, Rufus, turns up to the wedding despite having dumped Libby for her cousin. The presence of a handsome stranger from California might help the situation or make it even worse.

My Best Friend's Wedding is a feel-good romantic comedy by Tilly Tennant.

While you can't tell from either the title or the cover, this book is one of the many romance novels set at Christmas time. Living in sunny Queensland, I can't quite get my head around the idea of a Christmas wedding (sweating your makeup off in formal wear) but apparently, they're a thing, at least in cooler climates. Taking photos against a backdrop of snow does sound dramatic. The characters all being snowed in at a wedding at Christmas is a fun, cheesy, Hallmark movie-esque premise. Unfortunately, the romance just didn't really do it for me, and it wasn't as funny as some other romantic comedies I've read in the past year. Perhaps Kristen Bailey ( Did My Love Life Shrink in the Wash? ) has spoiled me for other rom-com authors.

I did like Libby as a character, geeking out about proper formal wear, and dealing with her complicated relationship with her mum. Also, Rufus's antics provide the sense of moral outrage I like to get from misbehaving characters (hence the Oh No They Didn't score below).

The descriptive language paints a vivid picture of the venue and the character's outfits. The plot is slow, somewhat frustratingly so early on, but does pick up towards the end.

My Best Friend's Wedding is a feel-good novel that might be nice to read when dreaming of a white Christmas while sweating through an Aussie one.
