My Almost Heart is a book of poetry co-authored by Willow Se and Lindsay McLeod.

When I was first asked to review this book of poetry, I hesitated. Not because I didn't want to, but because poetry is not really my strong point. I don't know what drove me to want to do this, but I agreed, and am now so very glad that I did.

Willow Se is a published children's author and prize winner for prose. An accomplished singer and lead vocalist for Fashionably Late, she is a beautiful creative soul. Co-author Lindsay McLeod boasts 50 poetry publications and has won several awards for poetry and short fiction.

The by-line for My Almost Heart states that "…holds your hand and weaves you through its poetry along a quietly forested pathway, whispering to your own heart to feel again". I found this to be a very apt description.

When I sat down to read this fabulous compilation of 51 poems I didn't know what to expect. As I have said, poetry is not my strong point but I absolutely loved this book. With poem titles of Brewed, Heaven and Held, Noir Abattoir, Ambrosia, Truth and The Key, My Almost Heart will take you on a journey through the very central aspects of life.

In her review, Anne M Chappel, author of Zanzibar Uhuru describes My Almost Heart as "filled with rich language and challenging images", and "These poems take chances with us; trust us to understand something deeper". I totally agree.

For me, My Almost Heart was a whisper of esoteric something, not quite there, but winding its way through the ups and downs of my soul. At times my heart and soul burst with the memory of the past and past mistakes, lost opportunities and desire for something different. But then I was lifted to joy and hopefulness; of new life, new love and the miracle of rebirth.

As I sat and read My Almost Heart, looking out the window at beautiful new rosebuds, on a cold and rainy day, My Almost Heart felt like a timelapse of new bud to blooming rose. My Almost Heart challenges thought and pre-conceptions and leaves you longing for more.

There is a story within these pages, take a chance on My Almost Heart, and find your own journey.
