There is never a lack of sporting events for fans to go and see, but some sporting events are just bigger and more exciting than others. Many world events bring in viewers who are not traditionally sports fans. The main example is the Olympic Games. London hosted the 2012 Olympics with great success, and Rio hopes to do the same in 2016. Since it only comes around every four years, it does tend to spark a lot of interest.

2014 has already seen some excellent sporting events, such as the Winter Olympics in Sochi, and the Rugby Six Nations. There are also several events that are currently in full flow. My dad is watching Formula 1 religiously. He really wants Lewis Hamilton to win, but it things are neck and between him and his Mercedes teammate, Nico Rosberg. If Dad had any nails, he'd be biting them. My favourite driver, is actually Sebastian Vettel, who drives for Red Bull. Last year he blew away the competition, but this year it is more of a challenge. Do you watch Formula One? Do you support a particular driver, or more a particular team?

Other on-going world sports tournaments include the NBA for basketball fans and Superbowl for those who like American Football.

Then there are the games that have yet to start. Which are you most looking forward too? The FIFA World Cup is probably at the top of most people's list. Hosted by Brazil, it will kick off on the 12th June, with Brazil versus Croatia.

My mum is in high anticipation of Wimbledon, which starts on the 23rd June. She will be rooting, as always, for her 'nice Mr. Federrer'.

Finally, the world's largest annual sporting event will begin on the 7th July. Le Tour de France starts off in Leeds, England. Cyclists will continue through York and Cambridge, and then travel to Paris France. The event will finally end in Besanšon.

So which sporting event are you most looking forward to?
