Direct from a sell-out season at Adelaide Cabaret Festival and premiering in WA for FRINGE WORLD 2019 comes A Migrant's Son, a true story exploring migration from Greece to Australia during the 1930's.
This extraordinary new work conveys incredible historical events that are brought to life through original compositions, creating a unique and touching account that is both hard-hitting and hilarious.
Written and performed by award winning cabaret star Michaela Burger (as seen in Exposing Edith at FRINGE WORLD), this is a tale about a man, the son of a poor migrant, who defied all odds and rose above adversity to make Australia his new home.
From early morning deliveries for the family bakery at age seven, down opal mines in Coober Pedy and opening a chain of discount supermarkets, his unrelenting determination to build a successful life is both comical and dramatic; as he pushes through like an unstoppable force and is willing to sacrifice everything for his family.
Featuring traditional instruments, including bouzouki, the show touches deeply on topics of racism, intolerance, judgment and the struggles presented by migration. Spanning nearly 90 years, it presents the audience with a deep appreciation of what Australia has offered migrants of past generations and of today. Through the engagement of community choirs as part of the show, there is also an elevated feeling of community-spirit and diversity.
5th-17th February (no show on Mondays) at 9.30pm

Downstairs at His Maj, His Majesty's Theatre Hay Street, Perth
Everyone's favourite game show hostess, Dolly Diamond presents a premere season of the top-rating 70's television cult hit classic Blankety Blanks to FRINGE WORLD 2019 at Downstairs at His Maj from 12 February.
Joining Dolly on stage each night are six famous faces - much-loved celebrities also affectionately known as Perthonalities - who will help audience contestants win fabulous prizes.
It's variety, comedy and old school entertainment at its best. Or certainly its funniest, with UK born cabaret icon Dolly Diamond completely in her element sharing lashings of her sharp-tongued wit and comedic genius. It's a bit naughty, a little bit risqué and definitely filled with innuendo.
"I'm so excited to be coming back to Perth Fringe, so I've been gathering some of Perth's most fabulous Perthonalities to join me for Dolly Diamond's Blankety Blanks. It's going to be a BLANKING hoot!" Dolly said.
Having enjoyed seasons in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, New York and London performing for sell-out crowds in world-class venues, Dolly is thrilled to be returning with a brand new show at Downstairs at His Maj for five nights only.
