During the final month of autumn, film studios are prepping their stars for publicity tours for this year's round of American summer blockbusters. While they scramble, we can enjoy these 5 films featuring a childhood adventure, blockbuster superheroes, a clever biography, bumbling crime fighters and a Saturday Night Live comedian in a war zone. Alice Through The Looking Glass – May 26
The fantasy adventure of Alice's curious life continues after 2010's box office hit Alice in Wonderland. Inspired by Lewis Carroll's broad imagination, Alice Through The Looking Glass involves the rescue of the Mad Hatter (Johhny Depp) from Time (Sacha Baron Cohen) with the complications of the underland's most outlandish characters, portrayed by Anne Hathaway, Mia Wasikowska and Helena Bonham Carter.




Whiskey Tango Foxtrot – May 12
Tina Fey, the Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock comedian, stars as a frustrated television new reporter looking for a new challenge. She finds it as a war reporter, shouting 'WTF' as she's guided by a pair of savvy correspondents, played by our own Aussie talent, Margot Robbie, and Martin Freeman (Sherlock, The Hobbit). Adding to the chaos of war, Billy Bob Thornton (Armageddon, Fargo) is a Marine Corps General in a film reminiscent of MASH as it combines wartime drama and comedy.




X-Men: Apocalypse – May 19
The powerful mutants return in the ninth film in the X-Men world, continuing the saga unfolding after X-Men: Days of Future Past when Hugh Jackman/Wolverine travelled into the past to 'save the future of mankind' (he's a superhero, why else would he time-travel?). X-Men: Apocalypse features the adventures of these X-Men and X-Women from the past as they 'save the future of mankind' (again). Hugh damaged the flux capacitor in his time machine so he's absent from this film but the popular X-Men franchise still looks promising. Bryan Singer continues the director duties after the 2014 box-office hit and Jennifer Lawrence (Joy, Hunger Games, Silver Linings Playbook), Rose Bryne (Troy, Bridesmaids) and James McEvoy (The Chronicles of Narnia, The Last King of Scotland) star with an ensemble cast of heroes.




The Nice Guys – May 26
Since The Big Sleep with Humprey Bogart debuted in the 1940s, hardboiled crime stories exploring the 'dark underbelly' of our cities have fascinated moviegoers. Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling find laughs in the twists of a crime story set in noirish world of 1970s Los Angeles. This pair of clumsy crime fighters continue the satire of the crime genre, building on the legacy created by The Big Lebowski and Inherent Vice.




The Man Who Knew Infinity – May 5
Mathematics and cinema might seem a strange mix but A Beautiful Mind, Good Will Hunting, The Imitation Game and The Theory of Everything prove the equation adds up. The Man Who Knew Infinity, based on a true story, focuses on Srinivasa Ramanujan, a mathematical genius living in India. After gaining admission to study at England's prestigious Cambridge University, he's mentored by an eccentric professor (Jeremy Irons, star of The Borgias, The Man in the Iron Mask) and they uncover revolutionary insights into mathematical theory during World War One. Over 10 years in the making, the film has been celebrated by the math geniuses, rating it the most authentic portrayal of the study of maths.
