So there are kid's flicks, and tough action ones the young guys go for, and there are films, such as this selection that Gen Y wouldn't think of going to. So baby boomers here is your list. Take your partner, your mate, or treat your dear old Mum. Or sneak away for some chill out time and see a movie on your own. These exciting new release movies are at the cinemas now, or to be released during Autumn 2015. This is not a review, but my best picks list for the mature viewer of what to see this Autumn.

BIG EYES. True Story/ Drama Released- March 19
This one has come and gone at some cinemas, so you may have to track it down at some smaller ones. If all else fails get the DVD and curl up on the sofa when it is released. This married couple could have been a great partnership, but competition, and a lust for fame and fortune got in the way. The true story of the woman who painted those famous artworks of the children with the big eyes in the 1960s. They sold millions. This is a "he did her wrong" story with a retro vibe.

SAINT LAURENT. Drama/ Biography/ Released- May 8th.
Screening early as part of the Alliance French Film Festival, this European treat has beautiful people actors, set in beautiful Paris. And he was a man who wanted to make women beautiful. This true story of haute couturier Yves St Laurent and a snippet of a decade of his life. Anything French is worth seeing, not to mention the costuming to be seen here. Set in a time we all remember not so long ago.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN EXPRESS. Documentary/ IMAX
Released, March 26
Canada is a top destination for baby boomers at present. And this documentary especially filmed with IMAX technology will surely whet your appetite tor a trip there. This is one of the most popular train trips in the world, and you will never see it like this. The film only goes for 45 minutes, but will probably screen with some other unique shorts at an IMAX cinema near you. Never been to one? You are in for an experience, as its amazing.

MAD MAX. Action/ Futuristic/ Released- May 15
Here is one to take your husband. Look, we have waited almost 40 years for the sequel, and as we are not past it yet, I suggest we go see this one for nostalgia's sake. Mel is past it now to play the male hero, so there is a new young Max (Tom Hardy) in the lead role. Original director George Miller is certainly not past it and makes for some continuity. Someone needed to remember the story. I think I missed most of the story when I saw the original at the drive-in, but enough said on that topic. Perhaps what films we liked back then may not be so now. But if you like action, violence and strange vehicles you will like this film. On second thought maybe I will go see this one at the drive-in again.

STILL ALICE. Drama. Released- Late March
Love Julianne Moore's work. Here in her Oscar nominated role, she plays a successful 50 year old woman who has it all. And then a diagnosis to shatter one's life. Women over 50 must see this one. I reckon the cinemas will be chocked to the rafter when the advertising starts.Take tissues and face your fears.

TOMORROWLAND Sci Fi. /Action. Released- May 22
I don't usually go for Sci-Fi movies, but this one looks enticing. Due to the state of the world our leading lady needs to go in search of a new land. Set in the future, she finds an accomplice to help find the way, however their refuge is in their collective consciousness. With cast members Hugh Laurie, George Clooney and Brad Bird for director it certainly looks of interest. This is a much anticipated film in the movie world. Suitable for a rainy weekend afternoon perhaps.

FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD Romance/ Drama. Released- May 1st
I have seen at least two versions of this film, and now another one to compare. Based on the famous novel by Thomas Hardy, written in 1874, it's is still a seductive and thrilling story. This film is about a woman with three men vying for her affections, the choices she makes and the unveiling consequences. The story is so good, I would see it again and again. Can't wait for this one.

THE SECOND BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL. Drama/Screening Now.
Oh why do second movies get such a bad rap. This is India at its best, with the most colourful scenes and Bollywood dancing you will see all year. The production team have included a now greying Richard Gere to entice us to the cinema. I adore both India and greying babyboomers, so where is the ticket booth?

THE WATER DIVINER. Drama/ Period Film/ War Story Now Showing.
Reminders of the 100 year centenary of World War One even come to the cinema. Released just in time for Anzac Day, this is a poignant a tale of loss, tragedy, and all war leaves a family. Set in 1919, an Australian farmer (Russell Crowe) travels across the other side of the world to find some answers as to what happened to his sons. Take tissues, then stop by a memorial on the way home, bow your head, and say thanks mate.

So there is my Top Nine Films for Oldies. I don't get to the movies as much as I would like but my personal must see choices are Still Alice and Big Eyes. Hope you see something here you may like to go and watch. Please check your local cinemas for screenings and film classifications. Some films may come to country areas and smaller cinemas at a later date. There are many options for seniors to see a movie cheaper, so ask what discounts are available. And I will see you at the flicks.
