Have you ever heard about
Musically Speaking ? Formed by Peter & Robbie Giesmann five years ago, Musically Speaking has brought numerous people together from their love of music. Now with two clubs and over 200 meetings, Musically Speaking this year celebrated their fifth-year anniversary.
The club is Brisbane based with members sharing not only their music collections, but also sharing their style of music through public speaking and presentations. Everyone is given the opportunity to give a presentation on their style of music. To assist them
Instructional videos and presenter guidelines through a You Tube video can be located on their website. This provides the presenter tips on how to produce his or her own presentation slide show.
"We're Music Fans" is the club's own song. It is based on a Carly Simon's song and rewritten by member Sue McLachlan. You can listen to the song
here .
The club meets on a Tuesday and Thursday of each month at the
Mt Gravatt District Community Centre in Logan Road. Each meeting has a theme. For example "Over the Rainbow" members would colour code their dress in colours of the rainbow and song's portraying the theme. There is also a form on their
website if you have an idea for a special theme. Nights start at 7.00 and 7.15pm, usually running for two hours. New members are asked to arrive ten minutes prior to start time.
The nights are not all music,
games are also played which is a good way to find out how much you know about music and also to learn more. If you would like to be a little prepared for the games night, why not try the couple of games of trivia on their webpage to get you started. A newsletter can also be emailed to you if you sign up for it on the webpage.
If you think this is something you would be interested in, please go ring Peter on 3216 8366 to be invited as a guest for the next meeting. If you wish to become a member there is a $15 joining fee to cover a badge and notes folder. A membership fee of $96 is paid for 6 months which covers the room hire and public liability, insurance and administration.
The best thing about this club is that you do not need to have a partner to attend, singles mix in very well; everyone bringing something unique to the groups and perhaps making new friends as well. You do not need to have a particular expertise in music, just to have a love for it and you will blossom from there as your confidence grows.
