It seems that children just can't get enough of music from the moment they hear their first lullaby: some are soothed by it, while others love to scream along to every crescendo. Whether your toddler thinks she's the next Taylor Swift or your baby is bum-shuffling to Hi-5 on the TV, you may be looking for a fun place where you can encourage their love of music.

Lucky for us there are a wide variety of music classes across Sydney that cater for children from birth up to school age. Parents and carers are often encouraged to join in, so it's also a great excuse to release your inner child as you clap your hands and laugh without a care - that basket of washing can wait another day...

1. Ukubebe
'A joyful music and movement experience for young children. With singing, dancing and musical play.'

Ukubebe allows your child to try different instruments, sing along to familiar tunes and dance their little toes off. As the name suggests, there are ukuleles available for you and your little one to strum together.

This was the first music class that I took my daughter to as a baby and she loved using (and eating) the clapping sticks and throwing the giant, fluffy cotton balls around.

Ages:
Babies 0-12 months
Toddlers 1-2.5 years

2. Einsteinz Music
'Combines early childhood education philosophies with the use of live music.'

We enrolled with Einsteinz Music for a semester when my daughter was a year old. The teacher sang lovely folk music tunes, as well as familiar nursery rhymes, while strumming her guitar. There were plenty of bongo drums, tambourines and clap sticks to go around. Every so often a fluffy hand puppet would appear and sing along to one of the songs, or a barnyard full of animal toys would be handed out to accompany a jungle song.

3. Art 'n Move
'Developing children through art & craft, movement & music, literature & dramatic play with stimulating fun programs that will build your child's skills, confidence and independence.'

I enrolled my 19 month daughter for a semester of Art 'n Move after taking her to a free trial class. I loved the fact that the activities changed every few minutes, catering to those very short toddler attention spans. We played instruments, learned about where fruit is grown, read a story, made a painting, and had some free play time. There was so much to do that she never had a second to think about pulling the electricity plugs out of the sockets!
