From the 6th to the 10th of July, the greatest concert films and documentaries are screening exclusively at the
Palais Theatre . This special five day event is entitled the
Music on Film Festival . This film festival is a first for the Palais Theatre and it is expected to be an annual event.
The exciting film program consists of classic concert films, acclaimed documentaries and timeless musicals, and includes a special day long event entitled
Scorsese Sunday .
Highlights of the film program include screenings of;
-The animated Disney masterpiece
Fantasia .
- The documentary/concert film
Down from the Mountain , which features performances by John Hartford, Ralph Stanley, Gillian Welch, Emmylou Harris and Alison Krauss. Down from the Mountain features renditions of the traditional songs which appeared on the popular award winning O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack.
-The recent documentary
It Might Get Loud , which features Jimmy Page, The Edge and Jack White.
-
Pink: Live in Australia - the concert film which captured the American pop singer's record-breaking Funhouse Tour at the Sydney Entertainment Centre in Sydney, Australia.

The Magic Flute , which is Kenneth Branagh's English language film version of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's singspiel (opera),
Die Zauberflöte .
-And, what's a music film program without a screening of
Woodstock , featuring historic performances by the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Who and Joe Cocker. This special screening is listed as the official Director's Cut (225 minutes).
As for the Scorsese Sunday special event, which takes place on the 10th of July, the day long film program is composed of four films directed by the master filmmaker and
music aficionado .
The special event begins with a screening of the classic musical,
New York, New York , starring Liza Minnelli and Robert De Niro at 11am.
Which will be followed by a screening of the concert film
The Last Waltz at 2.30pm. This acclaimed concert film is often cited as "...
the greatest rock concert movie ever made ," and features the The Band (in what was advertised as their final concert) performing alongside special guests such as Paul Butterfield, Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, Ronnie Hawkins, Dr. John, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Ringo Starr, Muddy Waters, Ronnie Wood, Bobby Charles and Neil Young.
Your music education continues later in the afternoon with a screening of
Feel Like Going Home , a blues documentary featuring Corey Harris, John Lee Hooker and Salif Keita, which screens at 5.15pm. Feel Like Going Home is part of the acclaimed PBS documentary film series
The Blues .
Finally, the evening ends with a screening of the magnificent
Shine A Light , the acclaimed concert film which captured The Rolling Stones' 2006 Beacon Theatre performance.

Tickets for these special screenings are currently on sale through
Ticketmaster . Ticket prices range from $20 for Single Tickets, $10 for a Child (for the Fantasia screening only), $60 for all the Scorsese Sunday sessions and $160 for a Festival Pass, which allows you entry into all the film screenings and premium seating. Please note there are no concession prices to film screenings.
