The next Theosophical Order of Service (TOS) Adelaide luncheon event has a special guest speaker, Public Lecturer, retired Associate Professor in Earth Sciences, University of Adelaide, Dr Victor Gostin, whose topic will be Music, Maths and Mental Awareness."Our creativeness and intuition works through our lives and it unite us with all living animals and plants. The mental world is a reality but universal reality extends beyond this to include our physical body,"

In a collaborative study, Victor Gostin, George Williams, Peter Haines and other colleagues of the University of Adelaide discovered the first known occurrence of an ancient large meteorite impact structure with a vast scattered impact debris buried in the Flinders Ranges of South Australia. The asteroid, 3640 Gostin was named in honour of Gostin.

For those who are not aware of the Theosophical Order of Service (TOS), it is a worldwide organisation with the following aims:
1) To minimise the sum of misery in the world;
2) To forget self in working for others;
3) To eliminate selfishness and substitute love as the rule of the world;
4) To live to the highest that is within us.

In Australia, TOS works in six interrelated areas of service: peace, social welfare, education, healing, animal welfare and the environment. Members may choose to work on individually selected activities or on group projects, while some will work in partnership with other groups.

Activities conducted by TOS include almost every kind of goodwill work imaginable. Their projects include schools in poorer countries such as India, to animal welfare, from activism for vegetarianism to relief work in case of natural disasters (most recently Katrina).

In South Australia, TOS members conduct events to raise funds to donate to other charities, which include Hutt Street Centre, Charities working in Ethiopia, Mental Illness Fellowship of SA (MIFSA),Catherine House, Technology for Aging and Disability (TAD-SA), World Families, send money to TOS Italy to help fund their work with Syrian refugees.

To raise funds TOS (SA) holds dinners, lunches, talks and musical afternoons. The meals are always vegetarian and most dishes are made by the members.
