Escape the city and enjoy a cosy winter celebration of food and fine wine with live music and good friends at the vineyard of Stonehurst Cedar Creek in the Wollombi Valley. It's a celebration on a picturesque property only two hours from Sydney or one hour from Newcastle.
Minutes from the historic township of Wollombi in the Hunter Region, you'll lose the stress of city life whilst chilling out beside a fire pit savouring mulled wine on pour and a range of award-winning Stonehurst wines.
If you want more activity, take a bushwalk into the mountains and breathe in the fresh air or dance to the music in the woods amongst a hundred poplar trees and burn off both stress and calories. There's plenty to relish in with the music line-up including singer-songwriter Alex James Bowen gracing the stage with not only smooth blues and soul but a touch of rock; The Sea Gypsies with their blend of rock, indie and reggae that's sure to get you groovin'; and Georgie Jones combining blues, jazz and country anchored into soul.
You can also wander through the vineyards and the sandstone cellar door for some wine tasting. The wine and the cute ornamental items for your home will entice you to open your wallet.
Should you not like wine, don't despair as the event team behind Williams & Co will bring Lucy – their sweet vintage caravan bar – so lovers of beer don't miss out.
Food-wise, you can enjoy a gourmet Ploughman's Platter and barbecue or bring your own hamper of delights. Be sure to bring a picnic blanket or sun chair and soak up the vibes in the woods.
This event, kicking off at 11am, is part of the Hunter Valley Wine and Food Festival, so why not make a weekend of it and indulge in more of the region's offerings. Stay in a Cedar Creek cottage overlooking Stonehurst's vineyard. There are 7 cottages and each come with a verandah, a spa bath and a log fire, complimentary port and a hearty country breakfast hamper – sounds romantic and perfect for unwinding.
For those wanting to be closer to the earth, camping onsite is available for $20 per person. Wollombi itself also has a number of hotels and a shuttle bus is available to and from Stonehurst and local accommodation, making it easy to enjoy a few drinks without the worry of driving afterwards.
Bookings for this event are essential with entry at $40 for adults and $35 for Stonehurst Wine Club members. Children 17 & under are free. Tickets can be purchased online. The Ploughman's Platter also needs to be pre-booked as does the camping and shuttle bus. Enquiries and bookings for these can be made by calling 02 4998 1576.
