Throughout history, music and visual art have been intimately connected, and have influenced and inspired each other in many forms. Rhythm, texture, repetition, line and balance are all characteristics expressed in both music and art, evoking powerful emotional responses. Works such as the ballets of Dagliev, for which Picasso and Cocteau created costumes and sets to help express the music and paintings of twentieth-century painter, Kandinsky, entitled Compositions, Impressions and Improvisations, convey this connection. During the nineteenth century, the Romantic composer Robert Schumann wrote, "For the painter a poem becomes a painting, the composer converts the painting into sound. The aesthetic process of the one art form is the same as that of the other; only the raw material differs."

The connection and convergence of music and visual art is beautifully expressed in the upcoming performances of Music in The Sky, an immersive "trinity experience" of music, light and space. Music in The Sky is a kaleidoscopic journey where the audience will decelerate under a canopy of sunset, and encounter dreaming, space and sunrise - a sensory experience with live motion graphics, choreographed digital projection and sound - traversing classical music to modern contemporary and neoclassical styles.

Audiences will be captivated by classically-trained pianist Luke Howard and The Nano Symphony who perform as a six-piece ensemble, reinterpreting popular classical works including Debussy's RĂªverie, Eric Satie's Gymnopedie No.1 and Gnossienne No.3, along with contemporary compositions in a contemplative neoclassical style. The style of music takes the listener into a place of relaxation, meditation and reflection, creating the space to engage with all elements and multi-sensory nature of the performance.

The music is elevated to another level with the use of motion graphics and digital projections beamed through multiple projectors - the imagery, colour and tempo being synchronised to each musical moment throughout the 75-minute performance. Contemporary dancers will draw on the music and mood, interpreting the ambient landscape through live movement.

Keith Hong, who conceived the idea for Music in The Sky during the COVID lockdown of 2020, says, "The emotive nature of the music is the very heart of this event, something that draws audiences in a non-traditional way. The simplicity and authenticity of piano, strings and clarinet kindle an intimate connection between musicians and audience.""This evocative journey is really an invitation for audiences to recover from the year that wasn't, to dream about the future and envisage the possibilities ahead. Through contemporary classical music, we aim to amplify the renewal of hope after such a challenging period. That, along with the choreographed visuals and movement, will make this a truly unique experience."

Music in The Sky invites you to find a quiet space in a chaotic world, achieved through imagery and music inspired by nature and the cosmos. As the lights dim in the Roundhouse, the audience will be transported to another place.

Music in The Sky promises to be a magical and memorable musical event, appealing to lovers of classical music and coveters of extraordinary experiences. Makers of music, films and art will also enjoy experiencing how music, imagery, light and sound can be skillfully coordinated to create an immersive and seamless experience using the latest digital and lighting technology. Music in The Sky is locally created and produced.
