Regarded as one of Queensland's finest choral ensembles, Canticum Chamber Choir is celebrating 30 years in 2025. Their stellar season commences with an outstanding new contribution to contemporary classical music, presented in Australia for the first time, and only the second performance in the world.
Canticum Chamber Choir and Orchestra, with soloists Anne Fulton and Paul McMahon and conductor Emily Cox AM, proudly present the Australian premiere of a brand new setting of 'Stabat Mater' by Swedish composer Fredrik Sixten as part of its annual Holy Week series.
A 13th-century hymn, the Stabat Mater portrays Mary at the foot of the cross - an extraordinary depiction of a mother’s suffering. Sixten, acclaimed worldwide as a truly significant composer of our time, creates a pathos-filled setting, masterfully balancing melody, dissonance and expressivity to produce a powerful, moving work.
There will be two performances in Holy Week 2025:
Wednesday 16 April, 7.30pm
Good Friday 18 April, 5.30pm
Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 369 Given Terrace, Paddington
