Family-friendly music festivals around Victoria
If the mention of a festival, or music festival, conjures up the image of 20-somethings enjoying a boozy afternoon and night with not a child in sight, you might be pleasantly surprised to find that Victoria has a plethora of music festivals that are perfect for kids, too. If you loved enjoying music in the great outdoors pre-kids, there is no reason to stop enjoying this grand tradition once children are in your life. In fact, it can be a hugely beneficial experience for kids, and many festivals are even super accommodating to children with their very own children's stage and activities. Here are our top 5 music festivals to bring the kids along to in Victoria.

1. Peninsula Picnic

The Mornington Peninsula is one of the most family-friendly places in Victoria, so it only makes sense that their Peninsula Picnic is a day music festival perfect for all members of the family. Starting at 11:30am and finishing at 7pm, tunes all day, local Australian acts and wine and food from the Peninsula's very best, the adults will have plenty to enjoy. However, the 'Kid's Corner' is sure to keep the children just as busy with craft activities, face painting, pony rides, carnival rides and more to all be enjoyed. Children under 5 enjoy free entry, too!

2. St Kilda Festival

St Kilda Festival boasts a free line-up of local and national artists to keep the tunes going all day. The music has the best of R'n'B, Pop, Rap and more, whilst also accommodating the smaller kids with family-friendly tunes too. As well as the music, St Kilda Festival holds free activities, and includes a Kids Carnival full of rides, face painting, free dance lessons, craft and library activities. There is plenty for every member of the family, young and old at St Kilda Festival.

3. Grampians Music Festival

Nestled in the Halls Gap area of the Grampians, this music festival hosts the bests up and coming local and national acts for a weekend in the sun for the whole family. Boutique wine, beer and cocktail for the adults, and food for every appetite, turn an average weekend family getaway into something spectacular. A family dance party will get everyone grooving, as will the main lineup. Children under 14 are free, so make this an even better reason to attend this year.

4. Rainbow Serpent

Arguably one of Victoria's most famous family-friendly music festivals, Rainbow Serpent is the camping music festival your kids are going to love. Dubbed as an arts, music and lifestyle festival, over 10,000 people attend this weekend camping festival each year, and for good reason. For children, the 'Kids Space' is simply a wonderland. There are art workshops, circus workshops, face painting, dancing, puppets and plenty, plenty more to keep the children entertained. Rainbow Serpent even has accommodated families with purpose-built baby change stations. Exclusive family camping areas are available also, making this a super-inclusive event for guests young and old.

5. Lost Lands Festival

With the belief that festivals should be a family experience, Lost Lands sure does not disappoint. Circus Oz will be joining their 2020 festival with exclusive shows, and an array of circus and acrobatic fun. There will be comedy and theatre programs from The Little Big Top and baby change facilities for the little bubs. Held at Werribee Mansion, so not far out from the city for families, this is the perfect festival to dip your toe into for the novice family festival-goers.

Your festival going days are certainly not over, thanks to Victoria's abundance of family-friendly music festivals. Plan out your next weekend away or day out around the wonderful music and activities these festivals have to offer.
