Are you ready to be transported back to the times of kings and queens, knights and castles? Feel like listening to music which is clean and artistic? Then why not go along to hear Queensland's only period instrument orchestra in the second concert of their 2018 season, ?

On Sunday 15 April at 3pm, the Queensland Baroque Orchestra will be joined by special guest Lizzy Welsh, a virtuoso on the baroque violin in the delightful acoustics of St. Andrew's Uniting Church. Together, under the directorship of one of the world's leading experts in the performance of historic trumpets and cornetto, John Foster, they will present a varied program featuring music from the courts of Europe. Some of the composers represented will be J.S. Bach, Lully, Porpora, Albinoni and Babell. As well as performing on period instruments, the orchestra also performs at pitch of A = 415, rather than the A = 440 as is standard for modern orchestras.

A special treat for audience members will be the recreation of J.S. Bach's "Orchestral Suite no.3". Written in around 1730, the suite consists of five moments and may be easily identified by the latter arrangement of the 2nd movement, fondly known as Air on the G String.

Soloist Lizzy Welsh will feature in Albinoni's Violin Concerto in C major. Lizzie is a Melbourne-based musician whose main instruments are the violin and the baroque violin, and as a baroque violinist, she has performed with Orchestra of the Antipodes, the Australian Romantic and Classical Orchestra, Accademia Arcadia, La Compañia and Consort Eclectus and Harken Well, just to name a few.

Recorder enthusiasts will also be delighted to hear the Queensland Baroque's vice-president, Kathy Williams-DeVries performing a Double Recorder Concerto by Babell which also forms part of the program.

The concert will run for approximately one hour and forty-five minutes, including a fifteen-minute interval. Tickets are available from 4mbs Ticketing or can be purchased at the door. Ticket prices are $35 Adults, $30 Concessions and $20 Students. To discover more about Queensland Baroque or to make a donation to ensure future performances, please visit their Website .
