El Museo Nacional de Arte (National Museum of art) is considered one of the most important architectonic buildings in Mexico. This museum is located approximately 4 blocks from Mexico City´s main square. Its main purpose is to show varied works of art produced during the past four centuries in Mexico, allowing to see what has been developed during this period.



The showrooms are distributed over four floors, exhibiting paintings, sculptures, photography, drawings, engravings and decorative pieces of art. The collection of art comprises of approximately 4000 pieces from various artists, both national and foreign. By visiting the museum tourists may gain a better perspective of Mexico, as the permanent showings depict some important events that have impacted the Mexican history.





The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday and only closes on the 25th of December and 1st of January. The visits start at 10:00 AM and end at 6:00 PM. The general admission is 60 Mexican pesos (4.50 AUD). You can enter for free on Sundays. The address is Tacuba 8, Downtown, Mexico City.



Located on a part of the first floor, there is also Telegrapg museum, which shows the technology developed after World War II in the area of telegraphy.



There is a store on the first floor where you can find varied articles, such as books, keychains, handbags and pipes. Most items contain the image of a particular piece of art that is being exhibited at the moment.

They offer wheelchairs and there are also baby strollers for free, but you can bring your own if only it does not exceed 100 x 50 cm. You are not allowed to enter with a backpack, but you can leave your belongings in the locker
