The provides more than 100km of off-road adventure in northeastern Victoria that visits gourmet regions and areas of stunning scenery.
The part of the trail between
Wangaratta and Milawa is known as the "Heritage" section. It is flat and firmly packed gravel for the most part. There are a couple of road crossings as well as an underpass of the busy Hume Freeway. The scenery changes from riverside parkland to rural with some residential and farmlands thrown in.
As you pedal along, you become immersed in the countryside of north eastern Victoria. We passed vineyards, orchards, grazing cattle, sheep and alpacas. The natural bushland of the area is full of river red gums, grey box, wattle and the like.
The trail is easy to follow but you can lose track of the signposts in Wangaratta as there are many different cycleways in the town. A friendly local gave us directions to get back on the right track.
As we were staying in
accomodation at Oxley , we rode to Wangaratta in the morning returning via the extra 6km to Milawa for a delicious lunch platter at
Gamze Smokehouse .
This is an easy relaxing cycle trip that is suitable for the whole family. There are numerous places along the way to get something to eat or drink. This could be a gourmet food store, a winery, farm gate or restaurant such as
The King River Cafe . There are toilet facilities at parks in Wangaratta, Oxley and Milawa and plenty of spots to stop for a riverside picnic and/or a dip.
Ride the Wangaratta to Milawa section of the for a fun family-friendly cycling adventure.
