Oceanside embraces and promotes street art with countless amazing murals. Painted on buildings up and down the downtown streets, Oceanside murals are a treat for tourists and locals alike.
Art in public places, like these cool murals, makes art accessible to everyone and can easily be appreciated. The designs provide a cultural relevance to this beachside community.
Mural hunt
If you are like me, collecting pictures with themes that expand my body of photographic work is a pleasurable pastime. What better way to learn about a community than to explore its public art. Just give me a map to create a scavenger hunt and see how many amazing murals I can add to my collection.
Unique art
Mural artists, many of them local in Oceanside, inspire people to take pride in their town and create spaces for everyone to enjoy.
The extensive collection of amazing murals, more than 40 and counting, make Oceanside murals a testament to the resident's sense of community and culture.
While murals typically last 20-30 years, the Oceanside murals look freshly painted with their stunning and vibrant colors.
Favorite Oceanside mural
While I have only collected a scant 13 Oceanside murals, my favorite is the work of Bryan Snyder's (@snyderart) full-body portrait of Vincent Van Gogh (complete with the missing ear) and boutique of sunflowers on the nearby utility box. Found at the entrance to Artist Alley in downtown Oceanside, it will delight your senses.
Spotting all the cool murals when you #VisitOceanside is only one reason to explore this quintessential beach town. I'll give you more reasons in upcoming posts.
