Mundaring Weir is a dam like structure built in the 1890's, it is a great place to take the kids. Pack a picnic and get in the car and drive up to Mundaring. The wildlife is wonderful and there is always an ice cream truck either side of the Weir.
Along the Weir you will find facts about what it was built for and what certain contraptions do, its free and the sites are amazing. When the water is low enough you can see where they built on making the Weir higher after it over flowed.
There are steps that are slightly submerged in the shallow water beside the old railroad sleepers. These steps where used for swimming or getting into boats before those activities where no longer allowed.
The Mundaring Weir feed the Golden pipeline that goes from Mundaring to Kalgoorlie, constructed by CY O'Connor.
