30 Degrees South , specialises in serving delicious Indian cuisine. During our visit, we enjoyed a deal from Scoopon that offers entree and dessert to share per couple and a main, drink and naan/rice per diner.
Great for those wanting something different from dishes usually offered at Indian restaurants, their Mango Chicken had chunks of chicken of a good size, which were cooked just right. The mango pulp in the curry gravy gave the dish its distinctive slightly sweet flavour and the spices tied everything together.
Ideal for lovers of spicy foods, the gravy in their Chicken Vindaloo had a potent spicy kick with a bit of the sour taste that is typical of Vindaloo curries. We were also delighted that the chicken was of the same quality as that in their Mango Chicken. The dish is best eaten with rice or Naan to balance out the spiciness.
While we thought that the beef in their Beef Dry Fry was a bit tough, the ground paste of onion, ginger and spices the beef was fried in complemented it well. Cooked with the beef were strips of capsicum which added a bit of crunch and sweetness to the dish.
To balance our meat dishes, we chose the Okra Masala as one of our main dishes. The okra had the right amount of bite to them and the gravy partnered well with the okra. The curry also had the level of spice that should be suitable for most tastes.
Notable for being served on a hotplate, the Chicken Tikka was tender and spiced just right to make eating them an enjoyable experience. Accompanying the chicken was mint sauce and tamarind sauce to tone down its rich flavour a bit. If you like to add some tang to the dish, you can squeeze the lime wedges over the chicken before eating it.
Fried to golden brown, their Onion Bhaji was of a good size and had a bit what seemed like spices sprinkled on it to provide extra flavour. In addition to a small salad to provide some freshness, the Onion Bhaji came with the same mint dipping sauce that accompanied the Chicken Tikka.
We liked that the Naan Bread was of a generous size and had the fluffy texture we expected. Their plain flavour made them the perfect partner to their curries. If you like something with a bit more flavour, the Garlic Naan had a topping of minced garlic to give it a bit of garlicky flavour.
The right size for their Gulab Jamun, an Indian sweet made from milk, was quite soft and the syrup coating them was not too sweet. If you are a bit unsure about eating Indian desserts, the restaurant offers Ice Cream which is great for cooling your palate after enjoying their spicy curries.
The restaurant is quite small and the white tablecloths and ornate chairs gave the place a semi-formal feel. Parking is off little issue with the carpark in front of the restaurant offering a good amount of off-street parking.
