If you haven't checked out the cafe scene in Parramatta lately, then you need to! Parramatta is exploding with fabulous cafes from hole in the walls, to trendy celebrity joints. There's literally a cafe on every street corner, and a standout that we have just discovered, is the Mulberry Tree Cafe in Macquarie Street.

This gem of a cafe is hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Parramatta's main street - Church Street and it's pedestrian mall. As such it is a great place to escape the madding crowd, especially mid week when there are so many office and construction workers out and about.

The industrial chic fit out of the is on trend, with a massive blackboard wall at the back of the cafe space. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, with the inside being quite spacious. You order and pay at the front counter with one of the friendly members of staff. The is a family run business with two gorgeous young sisters pumping out the coffees and service, and their uncle Victor is on the floor as well. The cafe is named after the mulberry trees that were in their grandparent's backyard, that they used to climb as kids.

The cafe fare at Mulberry Tree is not only generous in size, but also easy on the wallet. There aren't any $20.00 breakfast menu items in sight, which is a welcome relief. Most menu items are below $15.00, with two of our favourite items on the breakfast menu being the Avo Smash and the Shakshuka. The Avo Smash is presented beautifully on a blue and white plate and is packed full of flavoursome avocado, tomatoes, fetta and perfectly poached eggs. Equally flavoursome is the Shakshuka with Chorizo. Served with loads of Lebanese bread on the side, this is the sort of dish that will keep you going all day.

If you venture in at lunch time you can fill your bellies with an assortment of burgers that come on soft milk buns, wraps with different fillings, or a more hearty plate of Kafta & Falafel with tabouli, hummus, pickles & chips. There's also Barramundi and Chicken Schnittys that come with salad and chips as well. There's an excellent selection of sandwiches and salads to have on the go if you are in hurry, and need something to take back to the office, or perhaps for a picnic in Parramatta Park which is just around the corner. For the mid-morning or afternoon sweet fix, there's a tasty selection of muffins and other baked goods to choose from.

In the competitive Parramatta coffee market, Mulberry Tree's brew is up there with some of the best. This is a testament to the steady stream of office staff coming in for their daily caffeine fix, as well as quite a few young fitness students (from a gym nearby), who come in for an espresso shot between workouts. The cafe has a coffee loyalty card, where you only have to buy 6 coffees to receive your 7th free as well.

The is open from Monday - Saturday for breakfast and lunch, as well as everything in between. Street parking is limited (especially during the week), so your best option is to park at Parramatta Westfield and walk down.
