Perth has raised the bar once again with its proclivity for hybrid foods with Muffle & Co setting up shop and opening for trade on Australia Day 2016 at the Fremantle Markets.

This clever name has more depth to it than the just the practical application of the word 'muffle' which by definition means to wrap or cover to keep something warm.

The 'Muffle' itself also happens to be the lovechild of when a mummy muffin and a daddy waffle love each other very much. So you get the best of both worlds – the fleshy sponge of a muffin, plus the light, crunchy indulgence of a waffle. Just to take the indulgence to the next level, each bubble is filled with either chocolate chips or fruit - and that's before it's even curled into the cone.

Some of the classic flavour combinations available are the 'Ferrero Delight' containing Ferrero Rochers nuzzled into soft serve ice cream, strawberries and banana, the 'Peanut Butter Banana' containing exactly that, or the 'Strawberries and Cream' with a range of ice creams, sauces and fruits to choose from.


Make sure you arrive with an empty stomach, as these heavyweight desserts take no prisoners.

Also note-worthy is that the address is very little help in actually locating the stall (it took me 20 minutes to find it on my own). Take the market entrance on the corner of Henderson Street and South Terrace across from the Sail & Anchor where the street performers frolic around, take your first right and it will be on the left corner.
